Two Girls Staring at the Ceiling

Lucy Frank
Description
Chronic illness is enough to get anyone down. As Chess begins to realize what it is that makes the night beetles swarm, making her sick, she meets Shannon who also suffers the same affliction. Chess tries her best to cooperate, while Shannon does her best to threaten, scream and be rude to everyone. The two teen girls share a room and the book is written with the thoughts, conversations and actions surrounding both of them. See a line down the middle? That's the curtain between them. It's removed when the curtain is opened or one girl has crossed over into the others space. "Two Girls Staring at the Ceiling," is a moving story in verse about what it's like to be really ill, understanding how to cope and finding the light in what can seem a dismal future.
