Midwinter Blood

Marcus Sedgwick
Description
There is an island where the sun never sets and a mysterious flower with magical powers grows. Blessed Island has no children but many adults who do not seem to age. A reporter arrives to investigate the island. He is welcomed by the inhabitants but he can't shake the feeling that there is something secretive and possibly dangerous going on behind the smiles. The reporter's story is just one of the intertwining 7 stories set on the island that begin in the year 2073 and go back to a "time unknown." There is an archaeologist searching for Viking artifacts, a downed pilot during WWII, a painter, a ghost, a vampire, and a king all connected to the island. Lastly, it is the story of a love that will not give up even as it faces death. Midwinter Blood by Marcus Sedgwick was simply an incredible story. It one of those books that is profound but accessible to even the most reluctant reader. Winner of the Michael L. Printz Award.
